David Walsh Bronxville | IoT Developer Communities: Platforms, People and Productivity in 2020

Image
David Walsh of Bronxville NY As more businesses start building and deploying Internet of Things applications and service, IoT platform providers are investing in rolling out and growing developer communities, demonstrating how their technology works, making it easier to use the software, applications, networks, clouds and devices than what their competition offers, and bringing together designers, engineers and innovators online. Just as every platform is different, every co m munity is different. Some are bigger than others, some offer more in the way of free code or services, some offer training beyond access to the docs and libraries, some encourage collaboration between developers, and some offer incentives including discounts and complementary professional services. Communities also cater to different kinds of developers — some support large enterprise in-house developer and DevOps teams, some support start-ups, some bring in partners, some offer certification and some focus...

For thirteen years, I worked  a t JPMorgan Chase’s private equity firm, One Equity Partners, on Park Avenue a few blocks north of Grand Central Station when they were headquartered there, and for the majority of those years, I remember standing closer to certain windows to try and catch a signal, and ultimately reverted to my good old fashioned, reliable desktop phone, asking those who tried to reach me on my cell if I could call them back from “a landline.” So chronic was this issue, we invested in a company as part of a roll up of telecom technology, infrastruc...

Earlier this week, Microsoft (  News  —  Alert ) Corporation’s President Brad Smith said that the “SolarWinds” hacking campaign that used a U.S. tech company as a springboard to compromise a raft of U.S. government agencies is “the largest and most sophisticated attack the world has ever seen.” According to  Reuters , the operation, which was identified in December and that the U.S. government has said was likely orchestrated by Russia, breached software made by SolarWinds (  News  —  Alert ) Corp, giving hackers access to thousands of companies and government offices that used its products.
